The History of Ubisoft – A Gaming Success

In the world of video games, one crazy idea can make you rule the world.

Video games such as “Assassins Creed”, “Rainbow Six”, and “Ghost-recon” are some games that have made Ubisoft become one of the most successful video game companies in the world.

Here is a brief Ubisoft History.

The History of Ubisoft

Ubisoft Entertainment is a French video game company that is popular for publishing several well-known video games.

It is probably the third most celebrated video game publishers in the world. It started as Ubi Soft Entertainment SA and later advanced to Ubisoft.

The future of the company was uncertain. It was formed in a small region of Brittany. Five brothers came together with the idea of designing, creating and selling video games.

The company later made an agreement with Electronic Arts, and other companies to distribute their video games all over France.

After several years, Ubisoft expanded to bigger markets that included the United Kingdom, the United States, and Germany.

By 1993, Ubisoft was among the largest distributors of video games in France. It later opened studios in other locations such as Montreuil.

Apart from the video game distribution, Ubisoft had a unique way of developing their business.

For instance, they gathered game developers aged between 18 and 19 to help them develop unique and innovative games.

This helped Ubisoft to compete with bigger game companies like Sega and Nintendo.

• One of their main achievements was to break through the American market. Ubisoft took a huge risk when they acquired Red Storm Entertainment.

• Also, when Xbox was released, many video game studios were not interested in developing games for it. Ubisoft developed several video games such as “Ghost-Recon” and “Halo” that became very famous.

• The company has also expanded into many locations that include Shanghai, Milan, Montreal, Barcelona, and Casablanca.

• Today, some popular video games have been designed by Ubisoft. Some of them include “Just Dance”, “Assassin’s Creed”, “Far Cry”, “Prince of Persia”, “Raving Rabbids” and many others.

• Apart from publishing its own video games, Ubisoft is also known for publishing great franchises that have been produced by other studios for specific platforms.

• The company growth was not as smooth as most people thought. For instance, the cost of maintaining the studio in Brittany was so expensive that the business had to move to Paris.

• A number of developers left and searched for greener pastures. One great developer who left the company was Michel Ancel who created a great video game known as “Rayman”.

• Ubisoft for some time used StarForce, a technology that would install drivers on various systems causing hardware and compatibility problems.

But after a while, the company confirmed it would stop using that technology.

• In 2010, there was a power-outage associated with the Ubisoft servers that caused connection problems.

Gamers were unable to play their favorite games such as “Assassin’s Creed II” and “Silent Hunter”.

• Also in 2010, Ubisoft introduced an online service platform known as Uplay.

Gamers would remain online while playing their favorite games. But sometimes it was impossible to play when the network-connection was lost.

Today, Ubisoft is a massive game distributor, and among the biggest around the globe. Fortunately, the company is growing and still developing some best video games.
